In Group A of the Asia Cup, Hong Kong has joined Babar Azam’s Pakistan and Rohit Sharma’s India. On Wednesday, August 31, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, they will play their opening game against India. Then, on September 2, they will play Pakistan in Sharjah.
After winning all three of their games in the Asia Cup Qualifier, Hong Kong was just unbeatable. In their debut game, they gave Amjad Mahboob’s Singapore a serious fright but won by eight runs.
Then, Nizakat’s team defeated Kuwait by eight wickets to increase their chances of making it to the main tournament. The six-wicket victory by Kuwait over Singapore, however, moved Hong Kong up to second place in the standings.
It was crucial for them to win the game against the UAE. Kuwait would have passed if the UAE had defeated them. Babar Hayat’s timely 26-ball 38* and Yasim Murtuza’s elegant half-century, though, helped them cross the finish line.
With one more, Hong Kong completed the 148-point chase. Additionally, captain Nizakat contributed a useful 39-run knock at a run-a-ball. Off-spinner Ehsan Khan earlier helped Hong Kong restrict the UAE to 147 in 19.3 overs by taking four wickets for 24 runs.
Ayush Shukla and Aizaz Khan both took three and two wickets. CP Rizwan and Zawar Farid each managed to score 49 and 41 points, but their efforts were ineffective.
