On Thursday, Gill started slowly, but as he got his eyes open, he fired off a few accurate shots right away. Dhawan, who tended to be more conservative, was content to allow his younger partner lead and bring victory to India.

KL Rahul chose to bowl first after winning the toss earlier in the day. However, Zimbabwe was destroyed by a bowling assault that included Deepak Chahar, who was making his comeback after a six-month absence, Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel.

Prasidh Krishna and Axar both took three wickets, and Chahar finished with career-best ODI stats of 3 for 27 off seven overs. Kuldeep Yadav bowled 10 tight overs, giving up only 36 runs, however he was unable to pick up a wicket. Siraj picked up 1 for 36 off of 8 overs.

Innocent Kaia and Tadiwanashe Marumani were dismissed by Deepak Chahar early on, leaving the hosts reeling at 26 for 2. After Siraj outwitted Sean Williams for one and then picked up his third wicket of the game to eliminate Wessly Madhevere, India made another significant breakthrough.

Against Bangladesh, Sikandar Raza was outstanding. In a memorable ODI series victory, he had hit back-to-back hundreds, but on Thursday, he struggled against one of the best teams in cricket, who were on tour without some of their top players.

Brad Evans (33), Richard Ngarava (34), and skipper Regis Chakabva (39), who all contributed significant runs, helped Zimbabwe reach 189 after being reduced to 83 for 6 in the 21st over. A target of 190 was never going to be difficult for a side, though, especially after two straight victories in ODI series against England and the West Indies.
