On the opening night of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne Awards (IFFM) 2022, actress Tamannaah Bhatia removed her shoes before lighting the ceremonial lamp. A fan account posted a video from the event on Instagram. Tamannaah was joined on stage by actor Taapsee Pannu and film director Anurag Kashyap.

After Taapsee lit a portion of the lamp, she called up Tamannaah to do the same. The actress then removed her shoes and approached the lamp to light it. Tamannaah explained her gesture to a woman nearby, “It’s just South Indian tradition.” Tamannaah then lit the lamp while standing barefoot. Taapsee wore an all-black ensemble with matching heels to the event. Tamannaah wore a green and black dress with heels.

The 13th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne recently revealed the recipients of its awards. The best director prize went to Shoojit Sircar for Sardar Udham and Aparna Sen for The Rapist. Shefali Shah won the best actress award for Jalsa, and Ranveer Singh won the best actor award for 83. 83 by Kabir Khan won the prize for best film. Abhishek Bachchan, Vaani Kapoor, Nikkhil Advani, Sona Mohapatra, Suresh Triveni, and former cricketer Kapil Dev were among the other celebrities who attended the festival.

One fan responded to Tamannaah’s Instagram video by saying, “Respect to culture.” This is what South has taught her, a commenter said. A comment read, “Wow, small things matter… great gesture by Tamannaah.” Another supporter commented, “She is showing her culture, the rich heritage of India, bless you Tamannaah.”
