Before taking over as the Test skipper in 2014 and the overall captaincy in 2017, the 33-year-old star batter served as Dhoni’s vice-captain for a considerable amount of time in all formats. The most enjoyable and exciting time of my career was spent serving as this man’s trusted deputy. I would always cherish the relationships we formed. With a picture of him raising his bat during a game with Dhoni in the background, Kohli wrote, “7+18.” The “7+18” refers to Dhoni’s and Kohli’s jersey numbers, which when added together equal 25, the date of Thursday.

Kohli wants to get back to the kind of form that made him the best batter in the world across all formats, particularly between 2016 and 2019. He has 43 ODI tonnes and 27 Test tonnes, but he hasn’t scored three figures since November 2019. In addition, there are doubts about whether Kohli should be selected for the Indian team for the T20 World Cup later this year given his declining strike rate in T20 cricket.
