Nikki is an Indian name and is on my birth certificate and I’m proud of that: Nikki Haley

Nikki Haley, a former United States ambassador to the UN, criticised Sunny Hostin for referring to her as a “chameleon” who disguises herself. It’s racist of you to criticise my name, the leader of the Republican party retorted in a tweet. Nikki Haley, South Carolina’s first female governor, slammed the accusation.

When one of the panellists mentioned Nikki Haley during the discussion, Sunny Hostin, the anchor of ABC’s The View, had something to say about her. What is her real name, asked Hostin? Later, she said that some people can be “chameleons” and choose not to embrace their ethnicity. In order to fit in better with the predominantly white US society, the host claimed that the US diplomat of Indian descent changed her middle name from Nikki to Nimrata.

But when one of the panellists replied, “Sunny, I don’t think it’s fair,” the host’s opinion did not go down well. Since Hostin’s real name is Asunción Cummings, a panellist said, “You go by a different name,” to which she responded, “That’s because most Americans can’t pronounce Asunción because of the undereducation in our culture.”
