According to a survey conducted by Atlas VPN and published on Wednesday, Google Chrome, the most widely used web browser in the world, is the most vulnerable. A total of 3,159 cumulative vulnerabilities have been found in the well-known web browser as of this writing, according to the VPN service provider, a division of Nord security.

The statistics are based on data from the VulDB database of vulnerabilities. Vulnerabilities reported in the database between January 1, 2022, and October 5, 2022 are summarised in the report. Although the research focused on the total number of vulnerabilities, it did not show how serious the flaws were (including those with patches).

Mozilla’s Firefox browser is ranked second with 117 vulnerabilities.

Microsoft Edge was reported to have 103 vulnerabilities as of October 5, which is 61% more than the previous year. According to the research, it has had a total of 806 vulnerabilities since its debut.

The survey found that Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera are all based on the Chromium engine, suggesting that all of these browsers may be vulnerable to Chromium flaws.

In response to numerous vulnerabilities revealed in the Google Chrome desktop browser, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) recently released an alert with a high severity rating. The organisation has cautioned users of the possibility of remote hackers accessing the system and carrying out nefarious deeds.
