A Hindu temple in a multi-religious complex in Dubai is all set for a grand openingon Wednesday. According to reports, the newly-constructed temple has as many as 16 Hindu deities and Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Book of the Sikhs.
During today’s opening ceremony, UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan will be the chief guest and Indian Ambassador to the UAE Sunjay Sudhir the guest of honour.
Public entry into the temple for people of all faiths will start from Dussehra, October 5, 2022. Speaking about the same, Sudhir said that the temple serves the religious aspirations of the large Hindu community living in the UAE.
“It is welcome news for the Indian community that a new Hindu temple is being inaugurated in Dubai today. This serves the religious aspirations of the large Hindu community living in the UAE. The new temple is located adjoining a Gurudwara which was opened in 2012,” he said.
“We are honoured that the UAE Minister of Tolerance His Highness Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan inaugurated the new Hindu temple in Dubai today. We thank the graciousness and generosity of the Dubai Government to provide land for the temple and facilitate its construction. We also thank the Government of the UAE for providing a second home to 3.5 million Indians where they live and work and contribute to the economy and society,” Sudhir added.
About the temple:
The temple, inaugurated on September 1, is said to be UAE’s first community-driven temple. The temple website states that it is open to public from 6 am till 8.30 pm and suggests visitors to be modestly dressed.
Devotees can pre-book their slots on the temple website by simply proving their name, contact number, email address and number of visitors. Each person/group will get a slot of 30 minutes to view the temple and a maximum of four people are allowed in a group.
