The men’s Ballon d’Or 2022 award was presented to French forward and Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema on Monday in Paris. The Real Madrid attacker, who was seen as the clear favourite, was recognised for his outstanding achievements in the 2021–2022 season, when Los Blancos won a record-extending European championship after an outstanding LaLiga campaign. When the French legend gave the Real Madrid attacker the golden ball during the gala event, the legendary footballer Zinedine Zidane was smiling with delight.

Benzema, the captain of Real Madrid, is interestingly the first Frenchman to win the Ballon d’Or since Zidane. The renowned trophy was raised in 1998 by the legendary former head coach of Real Madrid. In the same year, Zidane led the French national team to their first FIFA World Cup victory. While serving as Los Blancos’ head coach, Zidane also led the team to three consecutive UEFA Champions League victories.
